Wolverine Wheelchair Sports Association
About
In September, 1990, the first Wheelchair Basketball clinic was held in Grande Prairie with the help of Joe Higgins, Ron McKay and Dan Brinton. Wheelchair basketball began that November at the Grande Prairie Regional College and the enthusiasm and motivation fueled its fast growth in Grande Prairie. In just one year, there was a Junior program at Crystal Park School and an exhibition tournament took place here in Grande Prairie with the Junior Lights from Edmonton.
In twelve months the Wolverines had become established in the community and province. Today, the Wolverines Wheelchair Sports Association still offers Wheelchair Basketball as well as other programs such as Sledge Hockey, LifeFit, Handcycling, School Disability Awareness Program and an Equipment Loan Program.
