About

South Peace Regional Archives was established in January 2000, the first regional archives in Alberta. The Archives is funded by four municipalities in the south Peace River district of Alberta: the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, the Municipal District of Greenview, and the Municipal District of Spirit River. It is governed by the South Peace Regional Archives Society.

The purpose of the SPRA Society is to gather, preserve, and share the historical records of municipalities, organizations, businesses, families and individuals within the region, both now and in the future. These records reflect the personal, cultural, social, economic, and political life of the South Peace River Country of Alberta and are in all formats and media, including textual records, maps, plans, drawings, photographs, film and sound recordings.

The Archives offers access to its holdings through this website and through a public Reading Room. We also offer a regular schedule of events to promote interest in the history of the south Peace. SPRA is located in the Grande Prairie Museum, in Muskoseepi Park.
