Event DescriptionThe Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce, The County of Grande Prairie No.1 , The City of Grande Prairie, Farm Credit Canada, Community Futures Grande Prairie, and Business Development Bank of Canada have partnered to host the Growing the North Conference, one of the largest economic development conferences hosted in the region. Past conferences have seen between 350 and 400 attendees from all over Alberta, Northern British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories.

9:30am - Don Kayne – Canfor President and Chief Executive Officer - What's new in wood industry, Market production as it would apply to NE BC and NW AB, General outlook, New opportunities. (will speak to these topics with some emphasis on the impact that growing natural resource demand from Asia is having on BC & AB).
10:30am - Todd Evans – Export Development Canada Director, Corporate Research Department - "The changing global trade environment, and what it means for the Canadian North: brief global and NA economic outlook; changing structure of global trade; overview of export industries and geographic markets most relevant for the Canadian north.
1:00pm - Leonard Penner – Cargill Chief Executive Officer - Outlook on life after CWB, Projections 2012, New market recommendations.
2:00pm - Hon. Jeff Johnson - MLA for Athabasca-Redwater, Minister of Infrastructure - Overview of what's to come, Northern AB position in Government plan, Status of Alberta Advantage, Projections for year.
3:00pm - Laura Lochman - Consul General, USA for AB, SK, & NWT An overview of US-Canada economic and energy ties; Beyond the Border and Regulatory Cooperation initiatives and issues around the energy trade between our two countries.

1:00pm - Dr. Linda Duxbury – Human Resources & Work-Life Balance - Dr. Duxbury's talk will address these following issues. She will look at the formative influences shaping the different generations and look at possible sources of generational conflict within the workforce. She will also give employers information on how to adapt to meet the needs of these different groups of employee.
2:30pm - Tom Deans – Intergenerational Wealth Expert & Best-Selling Author of“Every Family’s Business”,
and Grant Robinson - Partner, Director of SuccessCare - Talk about the dangers of "gifting" a family business to the succeeding generation, and the 12 common sense questions for protecting family relationships and wealth.
The third annual conference will be held February 22nd & 23rd, 2012 but will start with A Taste of the Peace event on February 21st, hosted by Farm Credit Canada and Community Futures Grande Prairie & Region.
